The CIS is offering one-on-one Spanish and English classes online with instructors of its CIS Spanish School while convening in a classroom setting is not feasible due to COVID-19.


The CIS Spanish School

The CIS Spanish School in the capital city of San Salvador offers intimate classes and tutoring either online or on-site in an immersion experience. Students of Spanish and English progress through levels of instruction, delivered with highly individualized focus.

While learning Spanish or English, students develop an understanding of culture, values, history, development and current issues in El Salvador, as well as the CIS’s social justice mission.

Our language school is an exciting solidarity project that offers the opportunity for cultural exchange between Salvadorans and foreign nationals who are interested in learning together.

CIS is proud to now offer online Spanish Classes and Tutoring for kids and adults!


Since 2014, the CIS has taught Spanish to 416 students online. This has generated employment for 10 Spanish teachers.

Students progress through seven levels of instruction. Teachers are Salvadorans trained in teaching Spanish as a second language.

Our sessions are fun, interactive and affordable for everyone. Learn from home at times that work for you. 

For Kids: $15 per 25-minute session.
Up to 3 students at similar Spanish levels can participate in one session. Our professional teachers and tutors use interactive methods that make learning fun for children.

For Adults: $15/hour or a hour/week $17
Flexible schedule, according to your needs

Format:
Via video using Skype, Zoom, GoogleMeet, FB Messenger or WhatsApp. We offer courses at seven levels, from Beginners to Advanced to Conversational levels.

Spanish Classes in
El Salvador

 

Students who study on-site at the CIS Spanish School Language School in El Salvador progress through seven levels of instruction.

Teachers are Salvadorans trained in teaching Spanish as a second language and students come from many different countries.

Instruction focuses on improving pronunciation, grammar and speaking fluidity through conversation and participatory activities. You are free to request instruction in specific technical areas, such as medicine and health, Spanish pedagogy, social work, legal studies, economics, business, and agronomy. 

  • International Students: The CIS has taught Spanish to nearly 3,386 students from over 55 countries since it opened its language school.

  • In 2024, Spanish students came from 11 countries: United States, Canada, England, Switzerland, India, Holland, Mozambique, Bangladesh, Germany, Poland, and Austria

  • Schedule: In-person classes for adults convene Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.

  • Dates: Flexible. For Spanish classes, there are no start and end dates for sessions.


Expenses and Registration

  • Language instruction: US $150.00/week.

  • Political-Cultural Program: US $60.00/ 4 days (See below.)

  • Family Homestay Option: $125/week including breakfast and dinner or $80/week without meals (paid directly to the host family in cash). 



Political-Cultural Program

These afternoon and evening programs are an integral part of the Spanish School. We strongly encourage students to participate. The program meets four afternoons per week. On weekends, we day excursions and occasional weekend trips. 

Activities may include:

  • Visits to volcanos, the beach, and archeological sites of Maya, Lenca, Nahuatl and other indigenous ruins

  • A weekend visit to communities in the countryside, populated with families displaced by the Salvadoran civil war

  • A tour of the Jesuit-run University of Central America or the public University of El Salvador

  • Meeting with organizers of a Christian-based community and attending mass

  • Meeting with a women's organization

  • An activity with Salvadoran youth activists

  • A meeting with a public officials

  • Visiting an artisan workshop (Salvadoran crafts)

  • Volunteering with an environmental project


Private Spanish Classes

Additional private Spanish classes at the Language School are available during office hours (no weekends) at a cost of US:

  • Private Spanish Classes at CIS $15.00/hour (2 hours required per lesson)

  •  Alternatively, teachers can teach off-site (such as at your office or your home) during the week at a cost of US $20.00/hour with a 2-hours minimum per session (San Salvador area only).Prices may change depending on your specific location or schedule.
